March is Youth Art Month!

Angelfish by Isabella

Congratulations to Isabella, a second grade student in Mrs. Rose's class.
She is representing White Elementary for Youth Art Month. Her beautiful
watercolor Angelfish painting is on display in our state capitol building in
Topeka. Join the celebration by visiting our state capitol Building and enjoying
the awesome art work on display from students all over Kansas until March 31st.
Way to go Isabella!

The skit with William Allen White and Frederick Funston that was performed at the bond issue celebration in November is now showing on channel 20! It usually appears after the Wichita World of School News if anyone is interested in seeing it.

Lend
A
Hand
Club

The Lend-A-Hand Club is a group of 13 fifth graders and 3 high school mentors. They meet after-school once a week to plan and implement school service projects.

Since their first meeting in November, the group has helped with the holiday canned food drive and decorated the foyer for Christmas and Valentine’s Day.  Beginning in mid-January, the club has been painting the large trash barrels used in the cafeteria.

Other projects planned for spring are: picking up trash, watering the new trees and shrubs around the school building, and completing a wall mural dedicated to the 5th grade Class of 2006!!!

Our Good Apple Recipients
2004-2005

Bill Rose, Volunteer Award – Bill is the husband of White Elementary second-grade teacher Terri Rose. Upon completion of our Bond Issue project, Bill helped move furniture and boxes into the new addition. He also participated in our work day to hang bulletin boards in hallways and classrooms. We appreciate having him as such a great volunteer!
Dan Olguin, Volunteer Award – Dan is the husband of White Elementary third-grade teacher Michelle Olguin. Upon completion of our Bond Issue project, Dan participated in a work day at our school to install bulletin boards in classrooms and hallways. Students, teachers, and parents are benefiting by having educational information readily available.
Mark Smith, Volunteer Award – Mark is the husband of White Elementary principal Susanne Smith. Upon completion of our Bond Issue project, Mark spent countless hours at our school hanging blinds, curtains, and bulletin boards in new offices, hallways and classrooms. This not only improved the appearance of our new space, but contributed to student achievement by making information more readily available to parents and students.
